Falling for Autumn in Colorado - Part I

November 15, 2020  |  Crested Butte, Colorado

In late September of this year, I returned to Colorado to spend time amongst the mountains and the aspen trees. For me, it's a return to home, as I had lived in the small town of Gothic, on the bank of the East River, during the summers of 1991 and '92 when I worked at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory. It was here that I was introduced to a new and strange world, at least for a kid that had grown up in Iowa and later in Texas. It was here that I fell in love with the mountains, the streams, and the forests of the American West.

It had been two years since my last trip to Colorado, and I was eager to spend some time making new photos of the old places I love.

If you can't get enough, you can see more in part 2 of Falling for Autumn in Colorado where I've shared the photographs I made in the second half of my 2020 trip to Colorado including photos from Ridgway, the Double RL ranch, Telluride, Owl Creek Pass, and Silver Jack Reservoir.
